Dear Parents,
Tis’ the Season! We are learning a lot and are having fun doing so! Please read below the skills we are continuing to review this week.
Kindergarten
In reading K.9 d) The student will begin to ask and answer questions about what is read. e) Use story language in discussions and retellings. g) Discuss characters, setting, and events.
· sight words- have, to, what, do, red, yellow, you, and, on, blue
· sounding out words and writing what we hear
· practice writing a sentence
· identifying characters, setting, and events in stories
· concept of word (tracking words with our fingers in simple poems)
In math we begin a new unit on positions, identifying and locating “positions” (below, over, under, on, off, in, out, in-between, etc.) (Math SOL K.12). In science we will continue with our study on the flow and properties of water. (SOL K.5)
3rd Grade
Reading
SOL 3.5 The student compare and contrast characters, settings, and events. We will also be working on the Reading comprehension strategy of summarizing.
Please read each night for 15 minutes and ask questions to your child about what they read. This will help increase their understanding of the text and build vocabulary skills.
Math
SOL 3.5, 3.6, and 3.19. We will continue a unit on multiplication. They will have to know multiplication and division facts, how to represent them with strategies (arrays, groups of, skip counting), and we will discuss finding patterns in the multiplication and division facts.
Please review addition and subtraction facts each night. This will help your child know facts by memory.
The SCA is sponsoring a can food drive to collect nonperishable items for needy families in our area if you would like to donate. The winning grade level will get a pizza party.

December 10th- Wacky Wednesday- Country/Western Day – students pay .50 to participate
December 11th- Family Movie Night (information was sent home on Nov. 21) 5:30-7:30
